PORTSMOUTH - A woman charged with hindering prosecution in the murder case of University of New Hampshire sophomore Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott, 19, waived her probable cause hearing in district court Wednesday morning.

Her attorney, Ryan Russman of Exeter, negotiatied with the Attorney General's Office for early discovery in exchange for his client, Kathryn "Kat" McDonough, 19, of Portsmouth, waiving the hearing.

The underlying documents that led to McDonough's arrest at her place of employment in Newington on Christmas Eve were released to Russman under a protective order. They otherwise remain under seal.

McDonough is facing two felony charges, both for allegedly giving a false alibi for her and her boyfriend's whereabouts the night of Oct. 9 and their interactions with Marriott that night.

Her bail was set at $35,000 cash or corporate surety by a Derry District Court judge on Dec. 26 after her arraignment on the two charges. She posted bail on Dec. 30 and was released from jail to the care of her parents, Denise and Peter McDonough of Portsmouth.

The recent Portsmouth High School graduate appeared in court Wednesday with Russman dressed in a black pencil skirt, soft pink cardigan and glasses, with her hair and makeup done.

Seth Mazzaglia, 29, of Dover, McDonough's boyfriend, was arrested and charged Oct. 13 with second-degree murder for allegedly suffocating and/or strangling Marriott in his apartment that night.

Police have been looking for Marriott's body in the waters off Peirce Island in Portsmouth since mid-October based on "credible information" but so far have not located her.
