During eviction, Nashua man sent to hospital for evaluation
NASHUA - Members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office attempted to evict an alleged felon from his on Kingston Drive Wednesday afternoon and instead ended up taking him to a local hospital.
Several sheriff's cruisers were parked outside 36 Kingston Drive, where a deputy was attempting to enforce a court-ordered eviction order, according to Chief Deputy Sheriff Christopher Connelly.
The home is occupied by Douglas Hardy, 57, who was arrested Dec. 18 by the Nashua Police Department and is charged with two felony counts of theft by unauthorized taking.
Police say Hardy -- a man who did odd jobs for two homeowners in the city -- allegedly stole more than $3,000 worth of their jewelry. It is still unclear why he was being evicted from his residence.
“There were some mental health issues that had to be dealt with,” Connelly said Wednesday after Hardy was transported from the duplex.
Connelly stressed that reports of a sheriff being held hostage at the scene were false, stressing no one was injured during the incident.
“The gentleman was not arrested, but he was transported to the hospital for an evaluation,” said Sheriff James A. Hardy. “There were no threats made to anybody by the individual, and the situation was quickly handled without incident.”
Sheriffs refused to say whether any weapons were involved.
Douglas Hardy has been free on $10,000 personal recognizance bail since his arrest last month, and he is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 9 in 9th Circuit Court, Nashua District Division.
