MANCHESTER - At least one man police consider a "person of interest" in last week's shooting death of Daniel J. Langlois was arrested this week on an unrelated charge, but he has not been directly charged with the murder, a source said Wednesday.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Jeffery A. Strelzin would not respond to the claim made by the source, who is close to the victim's family and who asked not to be identified.

"I don't have any comment to that other than to say no one has been charged directly in the homicide investigation and Manchester (police) continue to work this," said Strelzin, the state's top homicide prosecutor.

Langlois, 25, was shot once in the head about 3 a.m. Dec. 27 while driving a friend, who was intoxicated, home in the friend's car, according to family members. Langlois' friend was sitting beside him in the front passenger seat when the shooter fired through the rear window of the SUV on Jane Street near Nashua Street, Langlois' family and friends have said.

"We're waiting for justice for my daughter, Dan's friends and family, and me," said Katrina Warren, 24, who has known Langlois for six years. The couple has a 3-1/2-year-old daughter.

Warren is expecting their second child - a son - in June.

"It doesn't get any easier. Every day is another day without him," Warren said of Langlois, whom she described as an easy-going, hard-working family man who graduated from Coe-Brown Academy in Northwood in 2005. He worked full-time as a carpenter foreman for Master Hardware Installers of Manchester.

Warren said she believes Langlois was not the shooter's intended target.

"It was a mistake," she said.

"We ... think it (the bullet) wasn't meant for him because it wasn't his car, but he just happened to be driving that car," Warren continued.

According to Warren, Langlois and his friend, whom she would not identify, were at Club Realm at 23 Amherst St. earlier in the evening. They were followed by at least three men when they left the bar and went to the parking lot across the street, said Warren and her sister, Amanda Warren, 25.

It was there that a quarrel and fight broke out, they said.

Also present in the garage was a "close family friend" of Langlois, who urged Langlois "to just get home," Katrina Warren said.

Langlois drove off with his friend in the passenger seat, the sisters said. They were heading home when they noticed the men pursuing them, changed course and drove in another direction, she said.

At some point, it appears the initial group of men called in friends who were in a separate vehicle, Katrina Warren said. Langlois was on Jane Street when the two cars cornered him from the front and rear and Langlois collided with a third parked vehicle, she said.

"From what we were told, he (shooter) got out of the car and he shot through the back window and aimed at the driver," she added. She said she believes as many as "seven to 10 people" were involved when Langlois was shot.

Strelzin would not comment on Warren's account of events.

The prosecutor, however, has said the shooting is related to a confrontation that occurred between Langlois and several individuals at a nearby bar earlier in the evening.

Neither authorities nor Langlois' family and friends would identify the friend Langlois was driving home.

Amanda Warren said she is unsure if Langlois was targeted.

"None of us knows for sure. Only the person who did it knows," she said.

Amanda Warren questioned if the shooting could have been in retaliation for an incident that occurred at Club Realm a few weeks ago when Langlois - who was filling in for the night as a bouncer - had a confrontation with unruly patrons who refused to leave at closing time.

"Dan said that threats were made. Dan said that he was all done with the place," Amanda Warren said.

She called Langlois a "hard-working, stand-up guy" who would not initiate a fight.

"He never had an issue with anybody there. He doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He is an excellent father," Amanda Warren said.

"This family is heart-broken. I don't think our family will ever be the same," she added.

Relatives remembered Langlois, who grew up in Epsom and Northwood, as a "mentor" and "mediator," who often diffused family disputes with his level-headed advice.

Langlois did stunt motorcycle riding and participated in several stunt shows, Katrina Warren said. He also enjoyed working out and went on annual outings with about 40 friends to the Saco River in Maine.
