3 seats will be in play on Derry School Board
The applications will be accepted at the office from Jan. 23 through Feb. 1, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The term of the positions is three years and receives an annual stipend of $1,500.
School board members whose terms are up in 2013 are Kevin Gordon, Ken Linehan and Brenda Willis. The filing period for candidates for town offices is also from Jan. 23 through Feb. 1, with Feb. 5 the last day for citizens to petition for warrant articles, according to Town Administrator John Anderson.
The last day to register to vote for the town election is March 2, and March 11 will be the last day for in-person absentee voting.
Positions on the ballot in March include districts 2 and 4 town councilors, one at-large council position, two trustees for the Derry Public Library, two trustees for the Taylor Public Library, one trustee of the trust fund, and the town clerk. There look to be at least two open positions for the March election. Anderson said trustee of the trust fund Mike Gill has indicated he is not running for reelection, and District 4 Councilor Brian Chirichiello has repeatedly indicated that he will not be running for reelection.
"I'm retiring," he said.
The town council has also approved placing six proposed town charter amendments on the town election ballot. The proposed changes include doing away with the $1 filing fee for town candidates for public office, giving the town council the authority to determine if the town administrator has to live in the town, changing how the town's tax cap is calculated, changing language concerning meetings to consider the capital improvement plan, changing the time allowed to complete the town's annual report, and doing away with language in the charter that references the East Derry Fire District.
