KEENE - It's been over three weeks since her 16-year-old daughter, Sarah Allen, went missing, and Kimberley Diemond says, "I'm extremely concerned she is going to get into trouble or get hurt. She left with nothing. She had no job, no money. She left with just the clothes on her back."
Diemond, from Marlborough, said Sarah ran away from home, yet she is just a child who is now in a position where she must rely on the kindness of friends and possibly strangers.
She said Sarah has stopped using her phone and has not logged onto her Facebook account in some time. "She is like every other teenager: That is their lifeline. She is almost addicted to being in contact with her friends," she said.
Whether she is trying to stay off her mother's radar or if she is in danger, Diemond doesn't know. "Your mind goes to what happens if someone found her and is taking cruel advantage. It's really scary," Diemond said.
Sarah has been missing since Dec. 17, but she sent her mother a few texts in the days that followed. "I haven't heard from her since Dec. 19," she said. She was last seen visiting friends at the City Side apartment complex at the corner of Water Street and Community Way.
When Sarah disappeared, Diemond searched the city streets and called police for help. "She was last spotted in Keene so they have taken up this case and are leading this investigation," Diemond said.
Merrimack police also recently were involved when it was found she had been staying with a family there, but she has since left. "There seems to be plenty of families in this area that are willing to turn a blind eye when there is a child in their presence that they don't know," Diemond said.
Sarah is a Keene High School student, but because of Christmas break she has only missed a week of school. Diemond said she's having a difficult time getting any help from government agencies. "We only actually have services for people that have gone over that cliff and don't have services for people that are heading for that cliff," Diemond said. "She's a wonderful person. She's a great kid, but she's lost her way," Diemond said.
To help find Sarah, Diemond has started a Facebook page, "Please help find Sarah Allen," that has more than 1,500 followers. She also started a Twitter account Sunday. She has plastered area towns with fliers and is tracking down people who might know where Sarah is.
Diemond said she wants her daughter home by a warm fire or at least to know that she is safe.
"We're just asking her to at least call or text or at least get some kind of word from her. At this point I just want to know that she's OK," Diemond said. "I don't know what is going through her mind right now, but she's 16 years old and she's sort of at this point that she feels like she can't turn back from the choices that she's made, but she can; it's OK to come home."
Sarah was last seen with long, black hair, but because she may have dyed it blonde since she went missing, Diemond is asking people to focus on her build and facial features. Sarah has a petite build and hazel eyes. She is 5-foot-1 and weighs 100 pounds. She was last seen wearing skinny jeans, a black, hooded sweatshirt, black and blue-checkered shoes, and carrying a tan backpack. She has a lip piercing on her lower right lip.
Diemond is urging anyone with information to call Keene police at 357-9813.
