Nashua company eyes Chester College building

CHESTER - At least one town resident would like to move his business to the Chester College property.

Phil Cassista said he made an offer on Dalrymple and Nutting Hall in November as part of a plan to move Impellimax, the electronics and microscope assembly company he founded in Nashua in 1986.

"We don't want it to look like a high-tech building," he said.

Cassista was one of a number of residents who attended a meeting Saturday about the future of the Chester College site. Many of the attendees said they wanted the town to move forward with purchasing the property for future development.

An attorney for the Chester College trustees noted that the Realtor for the bank holding the college's nearly $2 million in debt is looking to sell the 70-acre college as a single property.

While Norwood Realty did publish an MLS listing for the smaller lot, Chester College President Robert Baines said Norwood Realty is only accepting offers for the whole campus at the moment.

If the town does move forward with purchasing the college campus in order to help control its development, Cassista said he would still be interested in using a portion of the campus for his business.

"We would not change the outside appearance of the building," he said. "It would be a stealth operation."

Cassista said his business currently has nine employees and manufactures material for the military, space, and defense industries. He noted that there would not be huge deliveries made to the business, and that most products are brought to UPS or FedEx locations.

In addition to the microscope business, Cassista said he has a side business building electric harps.
