Apartment building fire at Bridge and Union streets displaces residents

MANCHESTER - Firefighters are assessing the damage caused by a fire in an apartment building Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Bridge and Union streets.

District Fire Chief Jim Michael said two residents were helped out of the three-story building by firefighters, and everyone else in the building was able to get out on their own.

Michael says the fire started in a kitchen on the second floor and produced heavy smoke. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames after arriving on the scene at 616 Union St.

Residents who have been displaced by the fire were outside speaking with officials and making plans to relocate.

Information will be posted as it becomes available.
