Meadowbrook's facelift is slated to bring capacity to 8,300

Meadowbrook has begun $3 million upgrade, expansion project

More than 3 million dollar is being invested into an expansion and improvement project at Meadowbrook, officials at the Gilford entertainment venue have announced.

"This expansion allows us to take things to the next level, opening doors for bigger names and a better overall experience for our patrons," said Meadowbrook President RJ Harding.

Located on the banks of Lake Winnipesaukee, Meadowbrook (it has dropped the "U.S. Cellular Pavilion" from its name) is an outdoor venue with higher-priced seats offered under a pavilion roof. An adjacent area offers lower-priced lawn seating.

The expansion project, financed by partner Bank of New Hampshire, is projected to bring Meadowbrook's capacity to 8,300 from the existing 6,000, Meadowbrook officials said.

The facelift will entail the addition of 3,000 covered seats under a new extended pavilion roof. Though the size of the lawn seating area will be reduced by 700, there still be space for 2,000 patrons who want to take in shows from the comfort of their own beach chairs.

To accommodate these larger audiences, two new parking lots that will hold 500 spaces are being added. In addition, to improve traffic flow, a second road is being cut into the venue. Currently Meadowbrook has one entrance off Route 11-B via Meadowbrook Lane. The new "West Entrance" will be located off Route 11-C.

Other upgrades to the facility include the addition of another food and beverage area, more restrooms and technical improvements to the audio equipment and utilities.

Bonnette, Page and Stone (BPS), which is heading up this project, will be working throughout the winter and spring for completion in time for Meadowbrook to open its season in May.

Meanwhile, venue officials said early bookings will be announced this month.

Meadowbrook, nominated for music venue of the year by the Academy of Country Music four times and the Pollstar Magazine Red Rocks Award for best small outdoor venue in 2010-11, draws more than 100,000 concertgoers each summer.
