FREMONT - A Fremont man was arrested Friday on charges he fired a rifle at a car after an early-morning fight last weekend.
Andrew Decoito, 21, of 166 Main St., is charged with felony reckless conduct, simple assault and criminal mischief.
Acting Police Chief Denny Wood said the charges stem from a shooting that followed an altercation between Decoito and four others at his residence on Jan. 5.
One of the victims told police they were shot at multiple times while driving away in a vehicle.
Wood said the shooting occurred shortly after 3 a.m. when the four individuals attempted to flee Decoito's residence.
After a physical altercation, Wood said one victim claimed Decoito reached for an AR-15 rifle, at which point he and three others jumped into a Toyota Corolla and pulled out of the driveway.
"It was alleged that upon fleeing they were fired at by Decoito. While inspecting the vehicle there was evidence that the vehicle was hit by one round and several ricochets," Wood said.
Decoito allegedly fired the rifle while standing outside the residence. Wood said one round struck the left rear quarter panel.
"The incident could have ended up far more serious had the time been slightly different, considering Main Street is a busy road in the town of Fremont," Wood said.
Wood did not provide details on the circumstances that led to the altercation.
Police later executed a search warrant and seized a rifle.
Decoito was arrested on a warrant Friday afternoon and released on $25,000 personal recognizance and $500 cash bail.
He is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 1 at 8 a.m. at the 10th Circuit Court in Brentwood.
