NHIAA Roundup: Trinity, Bedford take nail-biters
The Pioneers trailed the Red Raiders, 54-52, when Otis lined up for the shot, which gave his team the lead for good at 55-54. Brad Rhoades hit one of two free throws on the Pioneers' next possesion to give them a two-point lead.
Mabor Gabriel had a big night for Trinity. He scored 14 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked four shots. Nicholas MacGregor led Spaulding with 14 points.
Trinity improved its Division I record to 5-0. Spaulding dropped to 5-1.
Bedford 55, Winnacunnet 53: At Hampton, junior point guard Taylor Grande hit a controversial 3-point at the buzzer to give Bedford the road victory. The Winnacunnet coaching staff argued that Grande's shot came after time had expired. Cam Meserby led Bedford with 18 points. The victory raised Bedford's Division I record to 3-2. Winnacunnet dropped to 4-2.
Manchester Central 73, Londonderry 48: At Manchester, Central outscored Londonderry, 35-10, in the second quarter and raised its Division I record to 6-0. Central's Troy Pelletier led all scorers with 19. Tyler Kelly finished with 15, and Dawson Dickson and Brett Hansen each finished with 11. Central made 14 of its 16 free throw attempts in the game. Max Coleman (16) and Bob Wilson (15) led Londonderry, which slipped to 2-4.
Exeter 50, Pinkerton 40: At Derry, the Blue Hawks rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to gain their second Division I win in six tries. Max Medley led the winners with 12 points. Tyler Russ added nine, including a pair of 3-pointers. Pinkerton, 1-4, received a game-high 14 points from Luke Testa.
Pembroke 86, Windham 54: At Pembroke, the Spartans (7-0) scored a season-high 86 points in a win over the Jaguars (1-5). Patrick Welch led the way for the winners with 33 points, while Andrew Lowman netted 17 for Windham.
Salem 64, Keene 54: At Salem, the Blue Devils trailed by five after three quarters, but outscored the Blackbirds 25-10 over the final eight minutes. Steven Nugent (13) and Michael Felix (12) led Salem, which raised its record to 1-4. Brian Boulay and Taylor Sarrette each scored 15 for Keene, which fell to 0-6.
Merrimack 65, Concord 40: At Concord, the Tomahawks placed five players in double figures to win handily. Shayne Bourque led the winners with 16 points. Eric Gendron and Mitch Denton scored 12 points each, and Austin Franzen and Brad Jarry netted 10 each. Sam Marquis led Concord with 16 points, and his brother Kaleb Marquis added 11.
Dover 52, Nashua North 36: At Nashua, Josh Cote and Billy Carroll each scored 13 points to lead Dover to its third victory of the season. The Green Wave salted the game away with a 19-5 fourth-period burst. Jordan Lates netted 11 points for the Titans, who slipped to 1-5.
Nashua North 65, Dover 53: Taylor Choate and Sarah Cordova combined for seven 3-point field goals as North remained undefeated after six games. Choate paced all scorers in the game with 20 points. Cordova dropped in 16. Dover is 5-4.
Bedford 55, Winnacunnet 40: At Bedford, Haley Driscoll poured in 22 points to lead 10 different Bulldogs in the scorer's book. Bedford, which burst to a 38-25 halftime advantage, improved its record to 6-2. Mimi McLeod tossed in 19 points for the Warriors, who fell even at 3-3.
Bishop Guertin 68, Memorial 39: At Manchester, Megan Green and Nicole Hayner both scored 14 points to pace the Cardinals (7-1) to a Division I win over the Crusaders (3-5). Makenah Grisson scored a team-high 13 points for Memorial.
Pinkerton 37, Exeter 26: At Exeter, Sam Breslan banked in 18 points and the Astros improved to 7-0 in Division I play. After a relatively even first half (12-10, Pinkerton), the visitors put the game away with a 25-16 second half. Exeter (4-3) had three players score six points apiece.
Spaulding 53, Trinity 38: At Rochester, Ashley Lemery scored 19 points including six 3-point field goals and the Red Raiders won their first game of the season. Jillian Gilman attempted to counter for the Pioneers, who slipped to 3-5, with 16 points.
Londonderry 75, Central 26: At Londonderry, Aliza Simpson scored 23 points and the Lancers (6-2) cruised to victory over the Little Green (1-7) in Division I action. Jordan Marett netted 11 for the Lancers and Amanda Gaudreault led Central with nine.
Campbell 61, Farmington 46: At Litchfield, Hannah Neild scored 16 points and Danielle Mackey added 10 as Campbell improved to 8-2 midway through the season. The Cougars placed 10 players in the scoring column. Farmington was paced by Shannon Cerdner's 13 points.
Concord Christian 29, Derryfield 27: At Concord, Derryfield committed 23 turnovers and slipped to 4-5 in Division IV. Kendra Jarvis scored eight points to lead Concord Christian. Rachel Larrivee's eight-point effort led Derryfield.
