Track and Field
BG's Garnick wins two Dartmouth Relays events: Betsy Garnick of Nashua's Bishop Guertin was the lone Granite State individual winner at the 44th annual Dartmouth Relays at the Leverone Field House in Hanover Saturday as she claimed titles in the 55-meter hurdles and the long jump.

The event draws the premier scholastic track and field athletes from throughout the Northeast and Canada.

One record was toppled. Abby Livingston of Barrington, R.I., set the standard in the 600-meter run with a time of 1 minute, 35.93 seconds.

Garnick cleared the hurdles to win in 8.29 and improve upon her silver-medal finish at this meet in 2012. Her winning long jump leap was 17-feet, 8.25 inches, an improvement of nearly a foot over her seventh-place effort last year.

Garnick was the New Hampshire Union Leader's 2012 Spring Track and Field co-Athlete of the Year.

The Souhegan of Amherst boys' 4-by-800-meter relay team won the gold medal in the team event with a strong time of 8:09.69. The team is made up of Jacob Kittredge, Nathan Kittredge, Sam Ballard and anchorman Tanner Kent.

A handful of New Hampshire athletes secured silver medals.

Chris Poggi of Derry's Pinkerton Academy finished second in the boys' 1000-meter run with a time of 2:33.52, while Garnick's teammate, Molly McCabe of BG ran second in the girls' 1000 with a time of 3:00.54.

Zakari Jenkins of Nashua North was the runner-up in the 300-meter dash in 36.21. Exeter's Shannon Murdock posted a 5:02.88 for second place in the mile, and Londonderry's Patty Driscoll was second in the shot put with a 37-5 put.

Pinkerton's Connor Kwiecien also managed a podium finish with his third place 1:23.24 in the 600-meter run.
