BRENTWOOD - A woman charged with selling roughly $16,000 in stolen jewelry to a Plaistow pawn shop has been scheduled for trial, weeks after her alleged partner opted to plead guilty to theft charges, according to court records.
Summer Ali-Ariza, 30, of Camden, Maine, is facing six counts of receiving stolen property for allegedly trying to unload valuables taken during burglaries in her home state.
The valuables belonged to at least three different people, indictments say. Ali-Ariza's trial is scheduled for the week of March 25 in Rockingham County Superior Court. She faces up to 7½ to 15 years in state prison if she is convicted.
Prosecutors say her boyfriend, Patrick Quinn, 38, was sentenced to 3 to 6 years as part of a plea deal he struck with county prosecutors. He pleaded guilty to theft by deception and receiving stolen property. Quinn's prison term on New Hampshire charges will run concurrently to a three-year prison stint he is now serving in Knox County, Maine, in connection with a series of burglaries there, according to court records.
Plaistow police arrested Ali-Ariza, 30, and Quinn last Sept. 28, after they allegedly made repeated trips to Rockingham Trading Post in Plaistow to unload approximately $16,137 in stolen jewelry and valuables. Store management contacted police about the duo, who claimed they owned the jewelry, police said.
Ali-Ariza began serving an 18-month sentence on Sept. 24 after pleading guilty to a burglary in Rockland, Maine, court records say. She and Quinn pleaded guilty in Waldo County Superior Court in Belfast, Maine, last year on charges related to a series of residential burglaries in their home state.
In Rockingham County, prosecutors sought charges for selling off the stolen jewelry and other valuables. Plaistow police credited the local pawn shop with aiding them in the arrests. Records kept by the store showed when Ali-Ariza and Quinn began selling the jewelry to them in Sept. 10. Plaistow police were tipped off by store workers when the couple returned to the store on Sept. 28.
