After a January thaw in recent days, forecasters are calling for a light to moderate snowfall on Wednesday as a storm system that was expected to miss New Hampshire moves closer.

Snow is expected to arrive between 5 and 6 a.m. in southern areas, said Tom Hawley, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine.

Hawley said 2 to 4 inches of snow is expected, but snow amounts could change as more computer model guidance comes in later today.

"Yesterday it wasn't going to hit us at all," he said. The highest snow amounts will be in southern New Hampshire, with far northern areas picking up an inch or less, Hawley said. The snow could mix with rain along the coast, he said.
