NHIAA Roundup: Groveton boys tip White Mountains; Trinity tips Bedford
At Bedford, Carmen Giampetruzzi tossed in a team-high 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help the Trinity of Manchester boys' basketball team improve its Division I record to 6-0 by beating Bedford 52-49.
Brad Rhoades and Patrick Keefe each added eight points for the Pioneers, who were held to four points in the second quarter and trailed by five at halftime.
Cam Meservy scored a game-high 21 for Bedford, which dropped to 3-3. Sean Purcell added seven points for the Bulldogs.
Manchester Central 80, Manchester West 50:At Manchester Central, the Little Green burst to a 23-9 first-period lead behind 10 first-quarter points from Troy Pelletier, who ended with a game-high 26 points. The victory, along with Trinity's 52-49 win over Bedford, leaves Central and the Pioneers as the lone unbeaten teams in Division I. Central is 7-0, and Trinity is 6-0.
Brett Hanson and Mike Plentzas added 17 and 15 points, respectively, for Central as the Blue Knights never recovered.
Central also controlled the game's rebounding behind the efforts of Tyler Kelly and Nick Makris. Zach Theriault led West with 15 points, including two 3-pointers. West fell to 1-6.
Nashua North 52, Timberlane 50: At Plaistow, North overcame a 10-point deficit in the third quarter to improve its Division I record to 2-5. North's Jordan Lates led all scorers with 27. Evan Ivelson scored 17 for the Owls, who fell to 0-7.
Nashua South 61, Salem 49:In Nashua, the Purple Panthers (6-1) continued to roll behind a 21-point effort from Jack Preston and 11 more from Trevor Knight. Nashua South connected on 26 baskets. Mike Felix connected for 18 points for 1-5 Salem.
Bishop Guertin 68, Alvirne 57: At Hudson, Jeff Lunn scored 28 points to propel the Cardinals to the road victory, which improved BG's Division I record to 6-1. Tyler Livingston (28) and Tyler Brown (22) led Alvirne, which fell to 3-3.
Keene 62, Pinkerton 44:In Keene, the Blackbirds gained their first win of the season. Both teams are 1-5. Keene outscored Pinkerton, 32-20, in the second half.
Brian Boulay had nine of his 13 points in the fourth period for Keene. Teammates Hunter Downs and Taylor Lawrence each netted 12. Cam Welch buried seven 3-point shots for Pinkerton and finished with 23 points.
Groveton 46, White Mountains 45: At Northumberland, Ethan Marshall's basket with seven seconds left helped Division IV Groveton improve its record to 5-3, while the Spartans slipped to 4-4.
The game was a back-and-forth affair and neither team was able to establish a substantial advantage. The game was tied at 21-21 at the half, but White Mountains led, 36-34, after three frames.
Marshall had a strong game, scoring 14 points and hauling down 16 rebounds. Many of those rebounds led to quick outlet passes to Corey Gadwah, who converted a number of layups. He dropped in four 3-point field goals as well and finished with 18 points.
Gilford 54, Franklin 48:At Franklin, Gilford (7-0) trailed 38-33 entering the fourth quarter, but outscored Franklin 21-10 in the final stanza. Josh Joyce netted 19 points with three 3-pointers, and Sam Prescott added 10. Jake Jameson had 13 for Franklin (4-4).
Pinkerton 58, Keene 29: In Derry, Pinkerton remained unbeaten with its eighth Division I win. The Astros led 33-13 at halftime as Sam Breslin led a balanced attack with 14 points. Ten Pinkerton players hit the scoring column including Kayla Stacy with nine. Ali Wilson led Keene with 14 points.
Milford 58, Portsmouth 47: At Milford, Dina Pitsas tossed in a game-high 27 points as Milford raised its Division II record to 6-2. Brianna Hoffman added 11 points for the Spartans.
Alicia Brown scored 20 for Portsmouth, 7-2.
Bedford 51, Trinity 32:At Manchester, Haley Driscoll led nine Bedford players in the scoring column with 11 points and the Bulldogs improved their Division I record to 7-2. Bedford erupted for a 19-2 first-period lead to put the game away in the early minutes. Trinity, which fell to 3-6, received 11 points from Jillian Gilman.
Nashua North 64, Timberlane 39:At Nashua, Taylor Choate made 4 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 23 points as the Titans raised their Division I record to 7-0. Sara Cordova added 10 for North. Marsha Lange scored a team-high 11 for Timberlane (3-3).
Sunapee 50, Derryfield 19:In Manchester, Sunapee (7-1) was led by a 14-point effort from Katie Frederick and 10 from Faith Larpenter. Amy Trinh paced Derryfield with seven points. The Cougars are 4-6.
Conant 49, Campbell 33:At Litchfield, Madison Springfield made 15 free throws as the Orioles remained undefeated nine games into the Division III season. Conant converted 34 tosses from the stripe. Springfield led all scorers with 24 points. Campbell's Hannah Neild had two 3-point field goals and closed with 10 points.
Girls' ice hockey
Bishop Brady/Trinity 4, St. Thomas/Dover 3:At Dover, Ann Margaret DiSciscio scored the game-winner with 21 seconds left in the game. Brady/Trinity trailed by two goals, 3-1, in the third period, but goals by Skylar Pepin, Hannah Stephen and DiSciscio rallied the visitors who improved to 4-5. St. Thomas/Dover, which sports a 5-4 record, received two goals from Gabby Dudie and another from Shayna Murphy.
