MOULTONBOROUGH - Elan Publishing has sold its academic planner business to School Datebooks of Lafayette, Ind.

Elan sells custom planners to more than 500 schools in the area, according to a statement issued Jan. 9 by School Datebooks announcing the acquisition of the Moultonborough-based company. School Datebooks President Tim Powers said the acquisition expands the company's reach on the East Coast.

"The acquisition makes School Datebooks an even bigger player in the custom student planning calendar market," he said in a prepared statement. "It increases our market share and secures more opportunities for us to continue our growth in the time-management innovation industry."

Elan President Tom Power declined a request Monday for a telephone interview. In addition to providing planners and organizers for students and teachers from kindergarten to college level, the company also makes field journals for surveyors, according to its website.

School Datebooks sells its products to more than 10,000 schools in 50 states. The company makes calendars and planners for students and teachers in all grade levels, from kindergarten to college.

The company has more than 45 employees at its 37,500-square-foot facility in Lafayette. Powers does not anticipate the company will expand its workforce with the acquisition.
