College Sports Roundup: Stys leads Penmen to win

Former Manchester Central standout Mike Stys connected for 20 points while teammates C.J. Marriro and Rodney Sanders each netted 11 as the Southern New Hampshire University men's basketball team posted a 71-55 Northeast-10 Conference victory against St. Rose at the Fieldhouse Wednesday.

The Penmen raised their record to 10-4 overall and 6-4 in conference play at the expense of St. Rose which dropped to 7-7 overall and 4-6 in league play.

The difference in the game came on the free throw line as the Penmen were 15 of 21 while the visitors were just four of five.

Stys was six-of-10 from the floor with five three-point field goals. He also had five rebounds and five assists.

The Penmen shot 44-percent from the field (22-of-50) and out-rebounded St. Rose, 30-27.

Albany 68, UNH 62: In Durham, Mike Black netted 22 points and Sam Rowley chipped in 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Albany. UNH, held to 16 first half points, was led by a 15-point effort from Chris Matagrano. Patrick Konan added 13 points and eight board while Ferg Myrick had 11 points and five rebounds. UNH falls to 4-12 and 0-4 in the America East.



Women's basketball



Albany 78, UNH 43: In Albany, N.Y., Cari Reed recorded 11 points, six rebounds and three blocks for UNH which dropped to 6-10 overall and 1-3 in America East. Elizabeth Belanger added eight points for the Wildcats who trailed 42-20 at halftime.

SNHU 60, St. Rose 39: In Manchester, Lorreta Rocha tallied 13 points as the Penmen improved to 7-7 and 4-6 in the NE-10.

Rocha added four rebounds and three steals. Deborah LaValley of Rocheste scored 11 points and Sloane Sorrell added seven points. SNHU led 25-17 at halftime as Brooke Springfield of Jaffrey banked home a 28-footer with one second left.



Women's Ice hockey



UMass-Boston 4, Franklin 2: In Boston, Colleen Doucette and Michaela Faia each had a goal and an assist for the Ravens. Franklin Pierce falls to 4-10-0, while Massachusetts Boston improves to 6-9-1.

Amelea Gray had 28 saves on the night for Franklin Pierce while Casey Schaejbe stopped 21 shots in nets for UMass-Boston.
