FARMINGTON - A Maine man wanted in connection with a shooting a week ago surrendered to authorities Wednesday after being released from a Boston hospital.
Matthew T. Roaf, 21, of 33 Second St. in Lebanon, Maine, was charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. He is the third man to be arrested in the case.

The charges stem from an incident which occurred Jan. 11 at 316 Meetinghouse Hill Rd. During the incident, Roaf and Stephen Roy, 24, of 4 Lords Court in Somersworth, were shot by a small caliber rifle. Both men received medical assistance for the injuries they sustained during the shooting, according to police.

Police Chief Kevin Willey said police continue to investigate the shooting, including whether the person who shot Roy and Roaf acted within the law or whether they were defending their home. He added it is unclear whether any more arrests will occur or charges filed in the matter.

Roaf, who sustained a chest wound, was transferred from Portsmouth Regional Hospital to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass. while Roy, who sustained a head wound during the shooting, was treated at York Hospital in York, Maine. Both men were released from the respective hospitals.

On Tuesday, area police arrested two men. Members of N.H. State Police and officers from Farmington and Somersworth arrested Roy, who was charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. Meanwhile, officers from Berwick, Maine detained Joshua E. Dionne, 27, of 34 Market St. Apt. B in North Berwick, Maine.

Roy, who was arraigned in 7th Circuit Court in Rochester Wednesday, is currently being held in Strafford County Jail in Dover.

Dionne, who was held at York County Jail in Alfred, Maine on a parole violation, was extradited today to New Hampshire, where he is expected to also be charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery charges, according to police.

Roaf, who was released on $100,000 personal recognizance bail, is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in 7th Circuit Court, Rochester Division.
While police from Barrington, Portsmouth and York, Maine also assisted with the investigation, local officers continue to work with members of N.H. State Police and the Strafford County Attorney's Office. “Additional details will be released when it is determined that releasing this information will not jeopardize or interfere with the investigation,” according to police.
