Doggie Paddle Plunge invites volunteers to freeze tails off in New Castle
The plunge is scheduled for noon Feb. 16 at Great Island Commons in New Castle. Registration is $35, which includes lunch.
"This is an incredibly heartwarming event," said Sheila Ryan, development director for the New Hampshire SPCA. Her organization hopes to raise $10,000 from the event.
"The plungers arrive dressed in bathing suits, kilts, and costumes ready to freeze their tail off for the animals in February."
By running full speed into the frosty Atlantic, they demonstrate their complete commitment to the animals of the NHSPCA, she said.
She said the SPCA appreciates every person and any size pledge. Money goes toward sheltering homeless animals.
Prizes this year will be awarded for best overall costume and fundraising levels. Coffee and snacks will be offered before the plunge, and lunch will be available afterward.
Registration is at nhspca.org.
