Hungry hundreds turn out to taste and test the best mac & cheese in NH
It's a perfect event for a mid-winter weekend. Folks getting a little hungry for a change of scenery - and some food - enjoyed a little bit of both at the New Hampshire's Own Macaroni & Cheese Bake Off last Saturday at the Grappone Center in Concord.
The third annual event drew an estimated 750 visitors - the most yet - to sample the mac and cheese creations of 28 participants, from regular home cooks to firefighters to professional chefs.
"We set a record for being awesome," said Amy Hall, director of Granite State Dairy Promotion, the event's sponsor.
The cooks were competing in a total of five categories, and for the honor of being crowned grand champion. This year's big winner was Molly's Restaurant of Hanover, for chef Justin Hoyt's Robie Farm Rigatoni, featuring three cheeses from Robie Farm of Piermont.
