NHIAA roundup: Nashua South boys prevail, 54-43
Nashua South outscored Bedford, 16-8 in the third period on the way to a 54-43 win in Division I boys' basketball on Tuesday night.
Jack Preston led the winners (7-1) with 18 points while visiting Bedford (3-5) was paced by Ryan Brown with 12.
Central 93, Timberlane 49: At Plaistow, Troy Pelletier scored the first 13 points of the second half and finished with a team-high 22 points as the undefeated Little Green cruised to the Division I victory. Dawson Dickson buried a career-high five 3-pointers and added 17 points, and Brett Hanson had 13 points. Collin Duffley netted three triples in the fourth quarter and chipped in 11 points for Central (9-0). Patrick Mahoney had 10 points for Timberlane, which dropped to 0-9.
Merrimack 57, Exeter 52 (2OT): Eric Gendron tallied key baskets in both overtime sessions and finished with a game-high 17 points for as Merrimack improved to 5-3. Mike Gasper and Shayne Bourque each added 11 points for the winners. Tyler Russ had 15 points for Exeter, which fell to 2-6.
Bishop Guertin 75, Winnacunnet 71: At Hampton, Costas Niarhos scored 13 points and Jeff Lunn finished the game with nine points and 10 rebounds as BG raised its Division I record to 8-1.
Ryan Gigliotti tossed in 16 for Winnacunnet, which has lost three in a row and fell to 4-4.
Salem 63, West 54: At Salem, Steve Nugent paved the way with 17 points, and Jeff Larosa added 12 points in the home victory for the Blue Devils. For West, Carl Jacques scored a game-high 23 points, and Nolan Flynn tallied 18. Salem improved to 2-6, and West dipped to 1-8.
Berlin 76, Gilford 54: Dimitri Giannos netted 20 points, and the Berlin Mountaineers handed the Golden Eagles their first division loss of the season. Berlin stormed to a 40-25 lead at halftime and improved to 9-1. Brad Fremette had 20 points for the winners. Josh Joyce had 15 points to lead Gilford, which dropped to 8-1.
Littleton 73, Gorham 43: At Littleton, Nick Whipple and Josh Bogardus each tossed in 15 points to help Littleton improve its Division IV record to 10-0. Sam Jensen scored a game-high 17 for Gorham, which dropped to 2-7. Littleton led 46-16 at halftime.
Central 47, Timberlane 32: At Manchester, Central erased a two-point halftime deficit by outscoring Timberlane 30-13 over the final two quarters, improving its Division I record to 3-7. Katherine Johnson led Central with 10 points. Dakotah Vondrasek and Shawna Weidman each scored a game-high 14 for Timberlane, which dropped to 3-5.
Bedford 58, Nashua South 24: At Bedford, the young Bulldogs raced to a 26-8 halftime lead and improved to 9-2 in Division I. Freshman Nikki Tucci scored 10 points, and sophomore Gabby Hunter had eight points and nine rebounds. Maggie McGown and Bri Purcell each hit a 3-pointer for Bedford, which improved to 9-2. Sarah Voorhis had nine points for Nashua South, while teammate Caitlyn Perry added eight. The Purple Panthers dropped to 2-8.
Trinity 45, Memorial 42: At Manchester, Bailey Caulfield made each of her four free throws down the stretch to help the Pioneers improve to 4-6 in Division I. Jillian Gilman led Trinity with 16 points. Danielle Fletcher led Memorial with 14. The Crusaders, who were outscored 16-11 in the fourth quarter, slipped to 3-7.
Alvirne 68, Keene 43: At Hudson, Sandi Purcell scored a game-high 24 points and Veronica Moceri added 17 as the Broncos improved to 7-3 in Division I. Alvirne led 45-17 at halftime.
Lilly Derosia scored a team-high 16 for Keene, which fell to 2-8.
