HILLSBORO - One person, who escaped a burning moible home on Wall Street, later was taken to an area hospital for treatment of an unknown medical problem.
About four people escaped the burning trailer, situated at 8 Wall St. behind a storage facility, but one of the occupants was later transported by ambulance to a local hospital, according to Fire Chief. Fire Chief Kenny Stafford. He did not know why the individual needed medical attention.
The fire was reported at 2:56 a.m. and by the time the first fire crews arrived 6 to 8 minutes later, flames had enveloped the mobile home.
Flames were coming out doors, windows, the roof," Stafford said.
here was little firefighters could do to try and save the home. Fire crews battled the blaze as temperatures dipped to minus-7 degrees Fahrenheit but Stafford said the frigid weather posed no problems for them. The mobile home is in an area of the town where there are fire hydrants.
It took about 90 minutes and 40 firefighters from four communities to extinguish the flames. When it was over, the fire had devoured the trailer.
An occupant told fire officials the blaze started in the middle of the home in a spare bedroom. What caused it remains under investigation, the fire chief said.
