Fire damages West Side business
District Fire Chief Al Poulin said a property owner checking on work Saturday to clean up a broken sprinkler pipe from Friday noticed smoke in the building at 124 Joliette St., off Kelley Street.
Poulin said he believes the fire, reported around 1:20 p.m., started in an 18-inch space between the first and second floors. The cause remains under investigation.
"We were fortunate someone came to that building or the fire would have extended very quickly," Poulin said.
