Gymnasts from level five representing Atlantic Gymnastics Training Center of Portsmouth recently returned home with second-place honors from the DGS Northeast Invitational held at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
The 12-member team was specially recognized by event organizers as the most supportive of their teammates, earning the coveted Spirit of the Sport award.
In the 7-8-year old division, Jennifer Ross performed a dazzling floor routine, scoring a 9.350 to earn first place. Ross earned accolades on vault (fourth place), beam and bars (third place in each event) and all round (second).
Dover teammate Katherine Carter was first on beam, third place on floor, second place on vault and fifth place on uneven bars. Carter was awarded third in the all around.
Grace Jenkins of Portsmouth executed her goals with her uneven bars performance, taking fourth. Jenkins was sixth on balance beam, eighth on vault and floor and, eighth all around.
In the nine-year-old division, Dover's Alysia Tellez won the uneven bars (9.30) and floor (9.60). She was second on vault and beam and first in the all around. Teammates Arianna Degenaars and Maddie Demmons were contenders. Degenaars was fourth on uneven bars, balance beam, and floor, securing fifth place on vault. She earned a third-place overall finish in her division.
Demmons was fifth on floor, sixth on uneven bars and beam and seventh overall. In the 10-year-old division, Lucy Ferrini performed personal bests on balance beam with an 8.75 and uneven bars with a 8.25. Ferrini was awarded 15th in the all around.
In the 11-year-old age group, Cailey Brickett of Wells, Maine, performed with poise earning third place all around supported by a third-place finish on floor, vault and uneven bars.
Grace Toshach was second on the balance beam, scoring a 9.30. She earned fourth on floor and fifth on vault and uneven bars.
Sisters Sara and Elizabeth Toshach were not to be outdone. Elizabeth earned fourth on vault and sixth on uneven bars, good for sixth in the division. Sara took seventh on uneven bars and ninth in the all around.
Cali McDonald was second on floor, followed by sixth place on balance beam, seventh place on uneven bars, and eighth place on vault. McDonald finished seventh in the all around. The team is coached by Jennifer Pelland and Matt Yellis.
