Manchester man faces multiple charges after altercation

MANCHESTER - Bail was set at $10,000 cash/surety for Rolando Casiano Velez, 23, of 289 Spruce St., who was arraigned Wednesday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division on felony charges of robbery and reckless conduct and misdemeanors of criminal threatening (2) and simple assault.

The charges stem from an incident Tuesday on Belmont Street, where Casiano Velez is accused of using force to take a cell phone from his ex-girlfriend, punching her three times in the face, telling her he was going to kill her and violently pulling on a 10-month-old girl in her arms.

He's accused of threatening to kill the woman's sister, and shoving her in the chest area with both hands, and of threatening another man, saying: "I know you were talking to my girl and I'm going to kill you."

A probable cause hearing on the felony charges was set for Feb. 12 and trial on the misdemeanors was set for March 12.

Bail conditions bar Casiano Velez from contact with any of the alleged victims and bar him from their residences.

Drug sale conspiracy

Henry Katris, 66, of 311 Spruce St., could enter no plea Wednesday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division to a felony charge of conspiracy to sell a narcotic drug.

Police prosecutor Lt. Peter Favreau said that on Jan. 9 on Wilson street Katris suppled another man with cocaine that was sold to a New Hampshire State Police officer.

Favreau requested $75,000 cash/surety bail, with a hearing on the source of any funds offered for bail, saying: "This is not his first go-round." Katris was convicted on drug charges in 1991 after being arrested in a drug sweep resulting from a six-month undercover operation in Manchester.

A probable cause hearing was set for Feb. 4, a day when State Police cases are heard in Circuit Court.

Accused of assault

A city man accused of throwing a wooden end table at his mother on Tuesday, hitting her on the head and causing a small abrasion, could enter no plea Wednesday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division to a felony second-degree assault charge.

A probable cause hearing was set Feb. 12 for Tek Bahadur Dahal, 28, of 550 Lincoln St. Bail was set at $10,000 cash/surety for Dahal with conditions barring contact with his mother and barring him from her residence.

Dahal had been scheduled for trial Tuesday in Circuit Court on two simple assault charges alleging he assaulted his sister last October, but the charges were nol prossed.

Says counseling helped

Peter Chagnon, 42, of 336 Lake Ave., pleaded innocent Wednesday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division to a simple assault charge that alleges he punched his girlfriend in the side of her midsection during an argument.

Chagnon told Judge William Lyons: "I did not punch her in the stomach." Chagnon said he's been in counseling and said: "I know not to hit a woman any more."

Chagnon also said his girlfriend slashed her midsection with a razor before police arrived and said she scratched him on the neck during an argument, marks that did not show up immediately.

A police prosecutor, noting Chagnon had four assault convictions in 2012 and one in 2011, sought $3,000 cash/surety bail. The judge set bail at $1,000 cash/surety and trial was set for March 12.
