MANCHESTER - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats will spend all summer celebrating their 10 years of professional baseball in Manchester, but it's 14 dates in particular that will interest most baseball fans in this area.
Those are the 14 games the Fisher Cats will host the Portland Sea Dogs at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The Sea Dogs are the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox; the Fisher Cats are part of the Toronto Blue Jays system.
Homestands against the Sea Dogs are: May 14-16, June 27-30, July 15-17 and Aug. 26-29. One of the many promotions the Fisher Cats are running will be Aug. 27 when a Ted Williams bobblehead will be handed out to the first 1,500 fans. Bobblehead nights are also featured for two other Red Sox luminaries: Johnny Pesky on June 2 and David Ortiz on June 12.
Individual game tickets for games in April and May go on sale Friday. Full- and half-season ticket plans are also available by calling www.nhfishercats.com or calling 641-2005.
Opening Day is April 4 against Reading and the team will kick off its 10th anniversary celebration by wearing the original uniforms from its inaugural season in Manchester in 2004. The first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive a commemorative ticket, while a plaque honoring fans who have been season ticket-holders since that first season will be unveiled.
In addition to the usual assortment of giveaways, part of the promotional schedule includes 29 fireworks shows and an All-You-Can buffet of hot dogs, hamburgers and nachos on Saturday, April 20.
Active members and veterans of the military will be admitted free of charge on Memorial Day (Monday, May 27), while families will be allowed to go on to the field to play catch after the game on Father's Day (Sunday, June 16).
