College Sports Roundup: Dartmouth earns crucial tie

Sophomore defenseman Rick Pinkston scored a power-play goal with 4:55 remaining in regulation, helping No. 16 Dartmouth to a 2-2 tie with No. 18 Union College on Friday night in Schenectady, N.Y.

Dartmouth goalie Cab Morris made a career-high 37 saves. Union goalie Troy Grosenick had 24 stops.

The tie enabled Dartmouth to stay tied with Union for third place in the ECAC. The Big Green are 7-5-2 in the league, 11-7-3 overall. Union is 6-4-4 and 13-8-5.

Another sophomore, Eric Neiley, scored Dartmouth's other goal, also on the power play, in the second period.

Dartmouth visits RPI Saturday night.



Women's hockey



Vermont 3, UNH 1: Wildcat netminder Jenn Gilligan recorded 17 saves, but the Wildcats fell to the Catamounts in Burlington, Vt. Arielle O'Neill scored the goal for UNH, 10-14-2 overall, 6-7-1 in Hockey East. The teams play again today at 3 p.m. in Burlington.

St. Anselm 2, Holy Cross 2: Hawks goalie Lindsey Brown made 22 saves as the visitors earned a tie. St. Anselm, which received goals from Tiffany Herron and Marianne Kristiansen, are 8-2-4 in ECAC Women's East play,12-4-4 overall.

Dartmouth 2, Harvard 2: Junior goalie Lindsay Holdcroft made 41 saves to help the Big Green earn the tie at Thompson Arena. The point was Dartmouth's first against Harvard since Dec. 15, 2006, when the Big Green won, 4-1. Dartmouth is 12-7-4 overall, 7-6-3 in the ECAC.

Plymouth State 2, St. Michael's 1: Junior goalie Ali Ponte stopped 29 shots to lift PSU on the road. The Panthers are 4-14-2 overall, 3-8-2 in ECAC East action.

New England College 6, Nichols 3: Aubrey Fischer scored a pair of goals for the Pilgrims, 6-7-5 overall and 3-6-3 in ECAC East action.



Men's basketball



Brown 62, Dartmouth 50: In Hanover, the Big Green dropped to 0-3 in the Ivy League, 4-13 overall. Freshman Connor Boehm led Dartmouth with 16 points, while Brown's Rafael Maia led all scorers with 21 on 10-of-11 from the field. The Bears, who led by at least 10 in the second half, are 2-1 and 8-9.

Colby-Sawyer 69, Maine-Farmington 62: Mike Dias poured in 21 points to lead the Chargers, 9-10 overall and 9-3 in North Atlantic Conference action. The winners opened the second half with an 11-0 run and led by as many as 13 down the stretch.



Women's basketball



Colby-Sawyer 70, Maine-Farmington 53: The Chargers won their 13th straight behind 22 points from Taylor DeSanty. They are 13-0 in the North Atlantic Conference, 16-4 overall.
