Police dog nabs alleged Macy's shoplfter

Aviles-Rivera

MANCHESTER — A Manchester teenager was arrested in connection with a shoplifting incident at the Mall of New Hampshire Saturday, after a police officer spotted him climbing over a fence nearby.

Luis Aviles-Rivera, 19, was apprehended after a police dog found him hiding under a deck at a house on Knowlton Street, according to police.

Police were called to Macy's at the mall about 1:45 p.m. for a report of a shoplifter who had fled after being detained by the store's loss prevention officers.

Residents of nearby Maynard Street told police they saw a young man who matched the description of the shoplifter climbing over fences.

As police searched the area, one officer saw a man climb over a fence in the area of Knowlton Street. A police dog tracked the man to his hiding place under a deck.

Police said Aviles-Rivera eventually surrendered and was arrested for theft by unauthorized taking, resisting arrest and criminal trespass, all misdemeanors.
