LGC eyes less rancor with new chief
As part of a state order last August requiring the New Hampshire Local Government Center to refund $50 million to cities and towns, the government center also was required to reorganize.
So last fall, the Local Government Center, or LGC, said it reorganized itself into three separate entities with separate boards of directors:
HealthTrust offers health insurance plans to cities, towns, counties, school districts and quasi-public entities at a lower cost than if the single entity went it alone because it pools the risk among a larger group of employees. In 2011, HealthTrust provided medical coverage to more than 75,000 people.
Property-Liability Trust does a similar function with property-liability insurance, workers' compensation and unemployment coverage.
The New Hampshire Municipal Association provides general legal advice to municipal officials and also advocates on municipal issues at the State House. The association also offers educational and training programs for local officials and employees.
The local government center, in a news release, said it "serves all three organizations by offering administrative efficiencies."
Originally founded as the New Hampshire Municipal Association in 1941 to exchange information to make local government more efficient and effective, it was reorganized in 2003 under the umbrella of the New Hampshire Local Government Center.
