House kills supermajority amendment for tax increases

CONCORD - House members killed a proposed constitutional amendment that would require a supermajority to pass or increase taxes and fees.
CACR 1 is similar to one that died last year when the House failed to agree with changes the Senate made in the proposed amendment.
CACR would require a three-fifths majority of the House and Senate to approve new taxes or fees or increases in taxes and fees.
The measure needed a three-fifths majority to send it on to the Senate.The vote was 206-149 to kill the bill.
