NH College Roundup: St. Anselm women win; Rivier's Purcell hits 1,000

Courtney Winters scored two goals, and the St. Anselm College women's hockey team defeated Middlebury, 3-1, at Sullivan Arena in Goffstown on Tuesday. The Hawks picked up their first win in program history against Middlebury and improved to 14-4-4 overall. The visiting Panthers dropped to 13-5-2.
 
Winter snapped a scoreless game by netting her 17th goal of the season early in the second period. Rosemarie Giarrusso also scored in the period to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead. Katie Sullivan scored for Middlebury in the third period, but Winters sealed the victory with her second goal midway through the final stanza.
 
St. Anselm goalie Lindsey Brown made 35 saves, while Middlebury goalies Laura Pinsent and Annabelle Jones combined for 17 saves.
 
Women's basketball
 
Lasell 62, Rivier University 61:At Newton Mass., sophomore guard Deanna Purcell from Alvrine of Hudson scored a game-high 35 points and reached 1,000 career points as Rivier suffered its second loss in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Pinkerton of Derry graduate A.J. Guidi tallied 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as the Raiders fell to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in the GNAC. Lasell College improved to 9-12 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
 
Purcell also became the fastest player in conference history to reach 1,000 career points, achieving the milestone in her 48th career game. Purcell joins her older sister, Amandra, who reached the 1,000-point club last season at Rivier.
 
Keene State 63, Plymouth State 31:At Keene, Siobhan Carnell led a balanced offense with 18 points as the Owls snapped a four-game losing streak. Christan Wojtas of Amherst chipped in eight points, and Keene State improved to 8-13 overall and 3-8 in the Little East. Katie Seraikas of Concord finished with seven points to lead Plymouth State (1-20 overall, 0-11 LEC).
 
Daniel Webster 54, Elms College 53:At Chicopee, Mass., Daniel Webster College erased a five-point overtime deficit for a New England Collegiate Conference triumph at Picknelly Arena on Tuesday. Vanessa Bosques fueled the comeback and finished with 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Eagles (11-10 overall, 11-3 NECC), who won their seventh straight.
