Impending storm forces high school sports schedule changes

Upon hearing a foot or more of snow forecasted for Friday in the Granite State, many athletic directors across the state announced high school basketball postponements and scheduling changes.

In Manchester, Central High athletic director Jane Clayton announced the boys basketball game between the unbeaten Little Green (12-0) and Salem will be played tonight at the Simon Gym in Manchester. The varsity game is slated to start at 7:30 p.m.

"The Central girls game at Salem will be held at 2:30 in the afternoon on Saturday because Salem's gym is not available Thursday," said Clayton.

Memorial athletic director Jack Quirk said he will talk to Exeter athletic director Bill Ball today about rescheduling the boys' and girls' varsity games at a later date.

In Goffstown, athletic director Steve Fountain said the boys' basketball game against Lebanon will be played in Goffstown today at 6:30 p.m. The Goffstown girls will also play today in Lebanon at 6:30 p.m.

In Bedford, athletic director Bill Whitmore confirmed the boys' basketball team will travel to Rochester today to play Spaulding at 6:30 p.m. The Bedford girls will host Spaulding today at 6:30 p.m.

Concord athletic director Steve Mello announced the Crimson Tide boys' basketball team will play Timberlane in Plaistow on Monday at 6:30 p.m.

The Concord-Timberlane girls' game has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 20 in Concord at 6:30 p.m.

Nashua athletic director Tom Arria said Nashua North and Nashua South are still planning to play Friday.

The Nashua South girls are playing at Bishop Guertin and the boys' game is slated at Nashua South. Starting times are at 7 p.m.

Nashua North is still playing host to Pinkerton Friday at 7 p.m. in the Gate City. The Nashua North-Pinkerton girls' game is still set for Friday at 7 p.m. in Derry.

Londonderry athletic director Howard Sobolov said the boys' basketball game has been rescheduled for tonight at 7 p.m. in Hudson against Alvirne. The Alvirne-Londonderry girls' basketball game was already scheduled for tonight at 7 p.m.

In Manchester, Derryfield School athletic director Lenny McCaigue said the boys' basketball team will be at Wilton-Lyndeborough at 7 p.m. tonight instead of Friday while the Derryfield girls will host the Warriors tonight at 6:30 p.m.

NHIAA Executive Director Pat Corbin said yesterday that the NHIAA 2013 Swimming and Diving State Championships will still be held at the University of Hampshire in Durham Friday and Saturday.

"We do have a contingency plan in place if weather conditions Friday and Saturday do not allow us to hold the meet as scheduled," said Corbin. "If we need to reschedule the meet, we will make an announcement either Thursday or Friday. We're tracking the weather closely just like everyone else."
