Man seriously hurt in sand pit accident

NEW HAMPTON – A New Hampton-area man was taken to Lakes Region General Hospital Friday morning with serious injuries after he was run over by his own truck at a local sand pit.

The man, who authorities did not identify, was injured in the Ambrose sand pit about 6:30 a.m., according to Fire Chief Mike Drake. He was an Ambrose employee, he said.

"He suffered injuries to his body and head areas that we hope will not be life-threatening," Drake said.

Drake said the man's truck had apparently not been parked properly and started to roll. The man was trying to stop the truck when he was struck and run over by it, he said.
