Storm takes toll on weekend sports events
In the high school ranks, the NHIAA has announced the Swimming and Diving Championships will be held Sunday at the University of New Hampshire in Durham. The NHIAA announced the diving events and the Division I and II meets will be staged Sunday. The Division II meet will start 10:30 a.m. and the Division I meet will begin at 4 p.m. Diving events will be held concurrently during the Division I and II meets. The Meet of Champions, scheduled for Sunday, has been cancelled.
"We just don't have the time or the place to run the Meet of Champions this year," said NHIAA executive director Pat Corbin. "It's also my understanding that there will not be a New England meet this year. You need a minimum of three states to compete and Massachusetts announced they were not going to enter it this year."
Corbin said this weekend's storm shouldn't affect the winter sports schedule moving forward. "Other than the swimming and diving meet, we had no state tournaments scheduled this week. It's my understanding the athletic directors have or will reschedule Friday's and Saturday's games. So for now, I don't see any problems moving ahead."
