UNH skiing in 4th at Dartmouth Carnival

LYME - Sam Coffey led a trio of University of New Hampshire men's alpine skiers to top-12 finishes at Dartmouth Skiway by notching eighth place in the giant slalom Friday as the Wildcat ski team took fourth place overall on the opening day of the Dartmouth Carnival.

With 364 points, UNH trails Vermont (501 points), Dartmouth (443) and Middlebury (383) in the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association's fourth carnival of the season.

Coffey posted a time of 2 minutes, 1.69 seconds to register a team-leading 35 points. Kris Hopkins was .07 seconds behind for ninth place (2:01.76/33 points), and Taylor Vest-Burton finished in 12th place (2:02.74) for 29 points. The Wildcats placed third with 97 points, behind UVM (123) and Middlebury (120).

Marie-Elaine Lepine paced the UNH women's alpine team in GS by compiling a two-run time of 2:09.01 for 33 points. The Wildcats swept places 11-14, with Randa Teschner (2:09.49, 11th place, 29 points) and Caroline Barry (2:09.71, 12th place, 28 points) edging out teammates Jenna Kantor (2:09.78, 13th place) and Catherine Blanchard (2:09.89, 14th place) to earn points. The Wildcats took fourth place with 90 points in a race won by UVM (141).

At Craftsbury (Vt.) Nordic Center, Per Lindgren was the top 'Cat in the men's 10K classical race by virtue of his 13th-place time of 31 minutes, 24.4 seconds for 33 points. Erik Lindgren finished in 20th place (31:50.7) for 28 points, followed immediately by Sam Reed of Keene, who amassed 27 points by finishing in 31:59.5 for 21st place. UNH totaled 88 points to finish third, while Dartmouth claimed the victory with 130 points.

Annika Taylor earned seventh place in the women's 5K classic by clocking in 17:24.3 for 35 points. Liz Guiney finished in ninth place (17:29.8) for 31 points, and Elizabeth Izzo secured 23 points with her 21st-place time of 18:18.7. New Hampshire finished fourth with 89 points in a race won Dartmouth (117 points).

The carnival concludes today with the men's and women's slalom races at Dartmouth Skiway and the men's and women's 3x5k freestyle Nordic races at Craftsbury Nordic Center.
