NASHUA -- City officials are encouraging residents to stay off the roads on Saturday while crews continue to plow local streets.

"I think the biggest thing right now is trying to get the roads cleared," said Justin Kates, emergency management director.

Although Nashua received two feet of snow in the last 24-hours, Kates said the city was fortunate that no significant power outages were reported.

"The plows were out all last night and will be out all day today. The snow looks like it is stopping, or at least slowing down. We still have some drifting, which is becoming an issue," Kates said around noon on Saturday. "But people shouldn’t try to get out at this point."

It is best for citizens to stay indoors, he said, stressing one stranded or stuck vehicle on the roadway could hinder emergency access to that area.

If they must get outside, Kates is encouraging residents to shovel nearby hydrants and sidewalks by their homes and businesses.
