WASHINGTON, D.C. - New Hampshire will receive $1.98 million in emergency relief funds to address damaged caused by Hurricane Irene in the summer of 2011, U.S. Rep. Carol Shea-Porter, D-N.H., said.

Shea-Porter said the announcement of the approval for the funds came from the Federal Highway Administration, and the money will be used to repay some of the repairs to federal highways and federal lands damaged by Irene.

At the height of the late August 2011 storm, nearly 250 New Hampshire roads were closed, her office said.

"I am pleased the U.S. Department of Transportation has approved these funds for New Hampshire," Shea-Porter said.
