Wheelabrator raises funds for Portsmouth's Krempels Center

PORTSMOUTH - Employees of Hampton-based Wheelabrator Technologies were at the Krempels Center on Wednesday to present a rather large check to the organization after a successful fall fundraiser.

Wheelabrator helped raise more than $16,000 during the Krempels King of the Road Bike Challenge, held in October. The proceeds benefit the nonprofit Krempels Center, which is dedicated to improving the lives of people living with brain injury from trauma, tumor or stroke.

Founder David Krempels announced the total results of the Seacoast cycling fundraiser while surrounded by more than 40 members of the Krempels Center living with brain injury, in addition to employees of Wheelabrator and representatives from LOCO Cycling.

"The Wheelabrator Team wowed us with their Krempels King of the Road Challenge participation and energizing raffle fundraising effort," said Lisa Couture, executive director of The Krempels Center, in a press release. "We are very grateful for their participation and support of our program and services."

The team raised more than $13,000 for the center through their participation in the October cycling challenge and an additional $3,000 through a Cannondale bike raffle.

"Our Wheelabrator team was proud to take part in the Seacoast cycling fundraiser to assist Granite State residents in rebuilding their lives," Wheelabrator Vice-President of Operations William Roberts said.

Wheelabrator operates 17 waste-to-energy facilities that provide safe waste disposal for towns and cities across the United States while providing clean energy.

Wheelabrator also operates five independent power plants designed to generate electricity using an assortment of fuels, including waste wood, tires, waste coal and natural gas.?
