HAMPTON FALLS - A tip to the Crimeline for the Hamptons Inc. helped crack the case of a man who was robbed and beaten last month outside The Poker Room - the same place that raises money each year to benefit the anonymous tip line.
Bryan A. Lisio, 25, of Hampton, was arrested earlier this month on robbery and second-degree assault charges after he was allegedly armed with a gun when he attacked and then stole $80 from a 64-year-old patron outside The Poker Room on Route 1 in Hampton Falls on Jan. 31.
Authorities were led to Lisio with help from a tipster after a photo of a hat recovered from the scene, believed to be suspect's, and a physical description and vehicle information, was posted on the Facebook page for Crimeline for the Hamptons and shared with social media sites and other media.
A man recognized the hat and the descriptions and provided the tip through the Crimeline, which provides reward money to people who offer information that leads to an arrest or indictment.
"We received a credible tip from a Hampton man who knew the person that committed the Hampton Falls robbery at The Poker Room. This led to the suspect's arrest in Hampton Falls," Hampton police Sgt. Steve Champey said.
Crimeline for the Hamptons Inc. will hold its third annual 10-day fundraiser at The Poker Room from March 22 to April 1. A portion of the proceeds from the event, which was planned in the months before the attack, will benefit the Crimeline.
"I think it's great that the charity we're helping by holding their fundraiser helped us catch the criminal who robbed one of our customers in our parking lot," said Frank Valgenti of The Poker Room. "This was something we never want to see happen again."
"As soon as we heard what had happened at The Poker Room, we hoped we could help the police catch the criminal by doing what we always strive to do," said Karin Breen, chairman of Crimeline for the Hamptons Inc. "We helped get the information about the suspect out to the public, and hoped that someone would call with a tip that could help him get caught."
