NH College Sports Roundup: Franklin Pierce rallies to defeat SNHU cagers

The Franklin Pierce University men's basketball team rallied from 11 points down in the second half to overtake Southern New Hampshire, 61-57, Wednesday at the SNHU Fieldhouse in Manchester.

Ryen Vilmont (13 points) and Ellis Cooper (14) combined for 18 points in the second half as the Ravens (17-5, 14-4 NE-1) rallied after trailing 44-33 with 14:32 left. Aleksandar Dobrovic and Mike Stys of Hooksett had 13 and 12 points, respectively, for the Penmen (13-9, 9-9).

UNH 71, UMBC 67: At Durham, the Wildcats (7-16, 3-9) needed overtime, but managed to snap a two-game losing streak. The Retrievers (6-19, 4-8) forced the extra session with a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of regulation. Junior Patrick Konan, who put UNH up four with a late 3-pointer in regulation, finished with a career-high 22 points.

St. Anselm 94, Merrimack 83: At Goffstown, the dynamic duo of Ray Mabrey (23 points) and Mike McCahey (18) proved to be too much for the Warriors (9-14, 6-12 NE-10) as the No. 22 Hawks (19-3, 15-3) reeled off their seventh straight win and 14th victory in their last 15 games.

Southern Maine 60, PSU 50: At Plymouth, poor shooting doomed the Panthers (6-18, 2-11 LEC) as they dropped their fourth straight game.

Eastern Conn. 93, Keene State 84: At Williminatic, Conn., the Warriors (17-7, 11-2) outscored the Owls (15-9, 9-4), 20-11, over the final four minutes of overtime to pull away.

Women's basketball

Franklin Pierce 73, SNHU 62: At Manchester, the Penmen (11-11, 8-10 NE-10) clawed back from a double-digit deficit to tie the game midway through the second half, but the Ravens (15-7, 12-6) answered with a 12-0 run to regain control. Brittany Martelle had a game-high 20 points for the Ravens, while Sloane Sorrell had 19 to lead the Penmen.

Southern Maine 81, PSU 39: At Plymouth, Jordan Grant of Concord had 10 points as the first-place Huskies (23-1, 12-1 LEC) rolled over the Panthers (1-22, 0-13).

Eastern Conn. 67, Keene State 55: At Willimantic, Conn., the Owls (9-15, 3-10 LEC) had their two-game winning streak snapped as the Warriors (10-14, 8-5) overcame a nine-point halftime deficit.

Merrimack 73, St. Anselm 48: At Goffstown, Ali Wagner of Center Conway had nine points off the bench as the Warriors (12-10, 8-10 NE-10) hand the Hawks (4-18, 1-17) their 13th straight loss.

Elms 70, Daniel Webster 62: At Nashua, the Eagles (13-11, 13-4 NECC) had their nine-game win streak snapped by the Blazers (15-9, 14-3) in a matchup of two of the top teams in the conference.

UMBC 59, UNH 50: At Baltimore, Md., Kelsey Hogan of Nashua tied her career-high with 20 points, but it wasn't enough to stop the Wildcats (9-14, 4-7 America East) from falling to the Retrievers (9-16, 5-7).
