College Sports Roundup: Dartmouth comeback falls short vs. Cornell

The Cornell men's hockey team jumped to a three-goal lead and held on to snare a 4-2 win over Dartmouth at Thompson Arena in Hanover Friday evening.

The win snapped a seven-game slide for the Big Red (9-13-2, 4-10-2 ECAC) and slowed Dartmouth's (11-9-4, 7-7-3) bid for a top-four seed and a first-round bye in the upcoming tournament.

Cornell limped into Dartmouth's den having lost 10 of 12 games since the start of the second half of the season. Cornell took charge in the second period on goals from Joel Lowry, Madison Dias and Greg Miller. Dartmouth, ranked 17th nationally, pulled within one goal on scores by Tyler Sikuar and Nick Bligh.

Cornell ended any hope of a last-minute tie by scoring an empty-net goal in the final minute of play. Dartmouth has not defeated Cornell in nine straight (0-7-2) contests between the two dating back to the 2010-11 campaign.

Playing in the 100th game of her career, Picarello became the third player in program history to reach the 100-point plateau. In addition to her three goals she handed out six assists and broke a school record. Her nine point-evening shattered the Hawks' previous record of five that stood for five seasons.
