Engineers Week: Christopher R. Bean, P.E. named 2013 NH Engineer of the Year

CLD Consulting Engineers company president and CEO Christopher R. Bean, P.E., has been selected by a jury of his peers from New Hampshire's engineering societies as the 2013 New Hampshire Engineer of the Year.

The N.H. Society of Professional Engineers nominated Bean for the award based on his outstanding contributions to the engineering profession, public welfare and humankind. He is a long-standing member of the N.H. Society of Professional Engineers; a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE); American Council of Engineering Companies - N.H., where he served as a director from 1996 to 2000 and president from 2000 to 2001; the N.H. Department of Transportation ACEC Consultant Quality Initiative Committee from 2009 to present; the N.H. Good Roads Association where he's served on the board of directors from 2001 to present and was president from 2011 to 2012 as well as serving on the Weaver Scholarship Committee since 2001, charged with maintaining the trust aiding the education of University of New Hampshire students studying civil engineering at the University of New Hampshire.

He was also appointed to the N.H. DOT Transportation Appeals Board by Gov. John Lynch in January of 2011. He was appointed by former DOT Commissioner Charles O'Leary as chair of the Blue Ribbon Salary Study Panel in 2007 and served on the N.H. DOT's commissioner search committee in 2008.

Bean attended Norwich University where he received a bachelor's in civil engineering and then received his master's in business administration from UNH. He has 38 years of experience in transportation engineering and management. He has served as president of CLD since 2001.

A devoted father and husband, he was married to Sharon in 2000 and takes a very active role in raising their two boys, Winsor and David. He also has two adult children from a previous marriage, Allison Brown and Whitney Bean, and one grandchild, Nolan Brown.
