The Granite State Christian Schools Association (GSCSA) held their Annual Awards Banquet on Thursday, February 7^th at Trinity Christian School in Concord, New Hampshire. Significant contributors to the cause of Christian education were recognized for their exceptional service. In particular, Former State Senator James Forsythe and State Representative Greg Hill, two key sponsors of last year's successful school choice legislation, each received Distinguished Service Awards as they were introduced by GSCSA lobbyist, James Pinard. Former gubernatorial candidate, Ovide Lamontagne, spoke briefly commending the school choice effort and extolling the benefits of Christian schooling.

 

The evening included remarks from Dr. Pamela Brady, founder and director of Coastlands Consultants, an area Christian school support services organization. Dr. Brady delivered a message emphasizing the need for educators to cultivate positive relationships with students and thus become mentors in the educational process. She also would be the keynote speaker at the GSCSA Annual Teacher Conference to be held the following day at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Epsom, New Hampshire.

 

The inaugural "Alan Graustein Award" was appropriately presented to Dr. and Mrs. Alan Graustein for their joint efforts in establishing a legacy of Christian education in New Hampshire spanning five decades. Dr. Graustein has served as a Christian school founder, administrator, and board member, as well as Regional Director for the Association of Christian Schools International. The GSCSA's "Timothy Award" was presented to Susan Wilderman of Jesse Remington High School, Candia New Hampshire. Ms. Wilderman teaches various math and science courses, and she leads learning projects involving maple sugaring, ecology, and outdoor education. The "Barnabas Award" was presented to Shirley McMechen of Concord Christian Academy. Ms. McMechen has taught in Christian schools for over 35 years and continues to deliver engaging and challenging classes to her students. And the "Leadership Award" was presented to Dr. Cliff Easton of Hillsboro Christian School. Dr. Easton's numerous accomplishments in the field of education include directing the Federal Curriculum Research Project and service as Principal at Hillsboro.

 

The Granite State Christian Schools Association promotes Christian education by providing leadership to foster communication and cooperation among Christian schools in New Hampshire. It further seeks to serve the cause of Christ by strengthening Christian schools and supporting individual believers, families, and local churches.
