NH home sales continue to rise

The sale of residential units continued its upward trend in January, while median prices declined slightly, according to data released Wednesday by the New Hampshire Association of Realtors.

The 800 residential sales in the first month of the year marked a 21 percent jump from the 660 sold in January 2012, while the median price of those sales, at $192,750, was 3 percent below the $198,000 of January a year earlier.

Sales volume in January grew 11 percent above 2012 - $174.6 million compared to $156.9 million.

Nine of the 10 New Hampshire counties saw unit sales increases in January, compared to the same period a year ago, with the only exception being Sullivan County, which saw an equal number of residential units sold. Four counties saw a median price increase, while Belknap and Merrimack counties saw the most significant drops in median price, at 19 percent and 12 percent, respectively.

New York Times looks for buyer for Boston Globe

NEW YORK - New York Times Co. is formally exploring a sale of the Boston Globe, its only remaining business outside the core New York Times media brand.

The publisher is working with Evercore Partners Inc. as an adviser for a sale, Times Co. said Wednesday in a statement. The company intends to focus its strategy and investment on the Times brand, it said.

Times Co., controlled by the Ochs-Sulzberger family, is coping with a difficult advertising market as spending on national campaigns continues to shrink industry wide. The publisher has sold other assets unrelated to the Times brand, getting rid of regional newspapers and About.com within the past 13 months.
