College Sports Roundup: Massad pitches no-hitter for SNHU baseball team

Jon Massad retired the game's first 26 batters and tossed a no-hitter for Southern New Hampshire as the 22nd-ranked Penmen blanked Chestnut Hill College, 15-0, at the Division II Northeast Challenge at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Earlier in the day, SNHU defeated LIU Post, 10-1.

Massad nearly registered a perfect game, but pinch hitter Patrick Campion reached on a misplay of an infield popup with two outs in the ninth. Massad struck out five and did not allow a ball out of the infield until the fourth.

Tyler Fortanascio led the Southern New Hampshire offense with four hits and three runs scored.

Against LIU Post, pitcher Junior Mendez struck out a career-high 11 batters without issuing a walk. He gave up three hits. SNHU's Bryan Toland hit a two-run triple.
