College Sports Roundup: Massad pitches no-hitter for SNHU baseball team

Jon Massad retired the game's first 26 batters and tossed a no-hitter for Southern New Hampshire as the 22nd-ranked Penmen blanked Chestnut Hill College, 15-0, at the Division II Northeast Challenge at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Earlier in the day, SNHU defeated LIU Post, 10-1.

Massad nearly registered a perfect game, but pinch hitter Patrick Campion reached on a misplay of an infield popup with two outs in the ninth. Massad struck out five and did not allow a ball out of the infield until the fourth.

Tyler Fortanascio led the Southern New Hampshire offense with four hits and three runs scored.

Against LIU Post, pitcher Junior Mendez struck out a career-high 11 batters without issuing a walk. He gave up three hits. SNHU's Bryan Toland hit a two-run triple.



Men's hockey



Clarkson 4, Dartmouth 0: At Potsdam, N.Y., Clarkson used the victory to move into a tie for fifth place with Dartmouth at 8-8-3 in the ECAC hockey standings with 19 points apiece. Big Green goalies Cab Morris and James Kruger each allowed two goals. Dartmouth was 0-for-5 on the power play.



Women's ice hockey



Clarkson 3, Dartmouth 1: At Hanover, the Big Green surrendered a trio of first period goals and never recovered, losing for the first time at home in eight games. Laura Stacey scored the goal for Dartmouth, 15-8-5 overall and 10-7-4 in the ECAC.



Men's basketball



Yale 78, Dartmouth 67: At New Haven, Conn., Alex Mitola drained seven three-pointers and scored a career-high 27 points for visiting Dartmouth, but Yale scored 50 points in the second half to pull away from the Big Green for the Ivy victory. Tyler Melville was the only other Big Green player to score in double figures with 11.



Women's basketball



Yale 66, Dartmouth 55: At Hanover, the Big Green rallied late in the second half to cut a 14-point deficit to six with 2:19 remaining, but the Bulldogs sealed the victory by going 9-of-10 from the free throw line down the stretch. Faziah Steen led the Dartmouth offense with 12 points.



Schedule change



New Hampshire: The America East Conference men's basketball game between the Wildcats and Binghamton at Lundholm Gymnasium, originally scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m., has been rescheduled to today at 5 p.m. due to the impending winter storm.
