Sackman named to Merrimack Chamber board
MANCHESTER - Attorney Edward "Ned" Sackman was recently appointed to the Merrimack Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
As a member of the board of directors, Sackman will support current members through business development, networking, employee education and community relations.
"Merrimack is an exciting place in New Hampshire right now. It has seen a significant uptick in commercial activity over the last few years," said Sackman. "I have gotten to know many of Merrimack's business people through chamber events, and it's exciting to be able to serve them now as a member of the board."
A resident of Concord, Sackman is an attorney with Bernstein Shur's Litigation Group and Business Law Practice Group. He also devotes time to pro bono work in the community, including a habeas corpus petition in a death penalty case.
Sackman received his BA from Tulane University and his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law. Prior to joining Bernstein Shur, he clerked for Judge Thomas M. Golden of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Public Policy Center adds board members
Dianne Mercier, People's United Bank President for New Hampshire, and Michael Whitney, former New Hampshire President of Bank of America, were recently elected to the board of directors of the New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies. The Center is a nonprofit public policy research organization based in Concord.
Mercier, of Manchester, has served as New Hampshire president for People's United Bank since 2009 and has worked in banking in the state since 1985. She is active in many state business groups and non-profits, including the boards of The New England Council, Elliot Health System, Riverwoods at Exeter and New Hampshire Public Radio.
Whitney, also of Manchester, retired from Bank of America in 2007, after 30 years in the financial services industry. He is principal at The Daymark Group LLC, a business consulting firm, and sits on the board of directors of several organizations, including Centrix Bank, the Norwin and Elizabeth Bean Foundation, and several private companies.
Welcoming the new members, the Center's Chair Sheila Francoeur said, "Mike and Dianne bring to the Center a wealth of experience in the state's business and non-profit communities, as well as a commitment to research-based, nonpartisan public policy."
Orr & Reno welcomes attorney Perkins
CONCORD - The Concord law firm of Orr & Reno welcomes Rebecca Perkins as a new associate. She will serve in the firm's business law practice area.
Perkins' practice focuses on transactional and regulatory work, including acquisitions. She also has experience advising nonprofit organizations and their boards on issues related to incorporation and ongoing compliance.
"We're delighted to have Rebecca on board," said Peter F. Burger, Orr & Reno president. "She's a talented young attorney whose energy and expertise will benefit Orr & Reno - and her clients - for years to come as our firm continues to move ahead in 2013 and beyond."
Perkins is a graduate of Dartmouth College (2004) and Cornell Law School (2010). She also holds a Masters of Law in international and comparative law from Cornell Law School (2010). She has been admitted to the bar in New York State and the District of Columbia; her admission in New Hampshire is pending.
Perkins is also a published author and co-author of articles on the entry of China into the U.S. wind sector, the revitalization of New Hampshire downtowns, and other topics.
In addition to her professional work, Perkins serves on the board of directors of Natik, a humanitarian organization in Boston that aids communities in Guatemala and Mexico. Earlier, she served in the Peace Corps as a volunteer in small business development in Senegal, in West Africa. She is a native of Stratham.
O'Neill earns accreditation
ALEXANDRIA - J. Brian O'Neill, A.A.E., deputy airport director, Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, Manchester, has been awarded the distinction of Accredited Airport Executive (A.A.E.) by the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE).
To qualify for his distinction, Brian had to successfully complete three phases of the accreditation process: pass a 180-item multiple-choice examination, fulfill a writing requirement, and demonstrate, in the final interview by a panel of A.A.E.s, his knowledge of airport management, business administration, and general transportation economics.
Rivier appoints four new trustees
Rivier University has recently added four new members to its Board of Trustees. Sister Janice Perrault, of Methuen, Mass.; Kevin Halloran of Brookline; Kevin Curran of Hollis; and Mary Jane King of Nashua will join 28 others in serving on Rivier's Board of Trustees for 2012-13.
Perrault currently serves as the assistant provincial for the U.S. Province of the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary. Prior to this appointment, she was program director at the Marie Joseph Spiritual Center and the Group Adult Foster Care Program. She holds advanced degrees in spiritual direction, clinical pastoral education and pastoral ministry, as well as a master's degree in religious studies from Providence College.
Halloran currently serves as an investment advisory representative with LPL Financial, where he oversees insurance and investments, including individual securities. He previously served as president of the Nashua Association of Life Underwriters (NAIFA) and the New Hampshire Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors, and serves as chairperson for the National Association of Insurance and Advisor Political Action Committee. He earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Southern Connecticut State University and a master's degree in business administration from Rivier.
Curran currently serves as president and managing member of Curran 800 Technology Center Drive, LLC in Stoughton, Mass., as well as founding general partner and managing agent for CMT Realty Partnership in Bedford, Mass; president and sole member of Curran Mustang, LLC in Hollis, N.H.; and president and CEO of GCC Technologies, Inc. in Bedford, Mass. He studied electrical engineering, computer science and pre-med at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
King currently serves as president of Conway Management, where she has held positions in finance and sales, and has been instrumental in the development of new products for more than 20 years. She has served on several nonprofit boards, including the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Nashua; the Merrimack Repertory Theatre in Lowell, Mass.; St. Patrick's Church in Nashua; and St. Christopher School in Nashua. She earned her bachelor's degree in professional nursing and her master's degree in business administration.
