Habitat expanding to Littleton, seeks homeowner

LITTLETON - The Habitat for Humanity-Ammonoosuc Region is looking for its next Habitat homeowner, and is holding an informational meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the AHEAD Training Center at 163 Main Street in Littleton.

A second information session will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 8.

The program is planning on starting a home in Littleton this year. Habitat volunteers have partnered with families needing a decent place to live since 2008, constructing homes in Littleton, Bethlehem, Whitefield and Lancaster.

"People should attend one of these meetings to learn more about Habitat and, if interested, to get an application," said Pat McLure, family selection committee chair. "Potential partner families will be chosen based on need, ability to pay the mortgage on the house and willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity."

To qualify for the program, applicants must have income high enough to afford a modest down payment, as well as a no-interest mortgage, taxes and insurance on the home, but too low to qualify for a traditional mortgage. The applicant's present housing situation must be substandard, and the potential homeowner must be willing to put in 250 hours of sweat equity for each adult family member.

For more information about Ammonoosuc Habitat, to donate or to get involved as a volunteer, email, go to or call 616-2515.
