Search resumes for new Londonderry town manager
Last week a notice was posted on the town website announcing the town manager search had been reopened. Interim town manager William Hart, the Londonderry police chief, said the decision was made to make a fresh start on the candidate search since so much time had passed since resumes were initially submitted and other interested candidates might have also pursued other ventures in the meantime.
Hart has been serving as interim town manager since mid-June, when longtime town manager David Caron announced his leave of absence. Citing a family illness, Caron, who had been employed as town manager for nearly 11 years, took what was initially a temporary leave. However, in the days to follow, the town's mismanagement of its impact fees was revealed, and Caron officially resigned July 20. The former town manager earned a $124,640 salary last year.
In mid-December, the town council met in private to discuss potential contenders for the position and several weeks later, council chairman John Farrell said the search had been narrowed to 60 candidates, then to five or so finalists.
With the latest development, the process essentially starts over again, and Hart said the new town manager probably won't be in office until early July.
Potential candidates for the job are expected to have at least a decade of senior management experience, a bachelor's degree or higher in public administration or a related field, and the ability to oversee a workforce of over 200 and an annual municipal budget of $32 million.
