ROCHESTER – A family of five was displaced after a fire destroyed their home on Forest Park Drive Tuesday morning.
Police, firefighters and emergency personnel responded at 10:41 a.m. after receiving a report of a fire in a raised ranch/split-level home at 27 Forest Park Drive, which is off Milton Road – Route 125.
Fire Capt. Mark Avery said the first crews arrived at the scene within seven minutes and saw heavy fire coming from the back bedroom window.
He said a woman and her three children were able to escape the home without injuries. Avery said firefighters from Rochester and Milton extinguished the fire while crews from Farmington and Barrington provided station coverage. He said Durham firefighters responded to act as a rapid intervention team, but were canceled en route.
The two parents and three children will be unable to stay at the home until it is repaired, Avery said.
"The whole top floor had heavy damage," Avery said, who added the damage was caused by a mixture of fire, smoke and water.
Avery said the fire was out by 11:21 a.m., out-of-town departments were released by 12:48 p.m., and investigators worked at the home until 2:18 p.m.
While firefighters believe the fire began in a back bedroom, Avery said the cause remains under investigation.
