NHIAA Roundup: Zorn leads Derryfield boys
Zorn buried seven shots from long distance as the Cougars improved to 15-4. Travis Chase led the visitors with 24 points. Canaan-Pittsburg fell to 6-13.
Littleton 62, Portsmouth Christian 41: Nick Whipple, Josh Bogardus and Jeff Howard all scored a dozen points in the opening-round win of the Division IV tournament.
Colebrook 71, Gorham 60: In Division IV prelim action in Colebrook, Dylan Leach netted 22 points for the Mohawks (14-5), who led 41-23 at halftime. Sam Jensen led Gorham (6-13) with 15 points.
Div. I boys, regular season
Bedford 72, Timberlane 36: In Bedford the Bulldogs improved to 11-6 in the Division I regular season campaign with their fifth straight win and eighth triumph over their last nine outings.
Bedford will host Central Friday at 6:30 p.m. Bedford led 39-18 at halftime as Sam Thomas netted 15 points and Cam Meservey added 11. James Caparell tallied 10. Timberlane (0-17) was led by Patrick Mahoney with eight points.
Pinkerton 58, Dover 46: In Derry, the Astros posted one of its biggest regular season wins, knocking off struggling Dover. Cam Welch (14 points), Luke Rosinski (13 points) and Scott Bradley (12 points) paced a balanced scoring attack for the 5-12 Astros. Anthony Lupi had 14 points for 7-10 Dover, which has lost seven of its last eight games.
Memorial 57, Alvirne 49: At Hudson, Tong Akot had the hot hand, hitting five of six shots and scoring 14 points for Manchester Memorial. Omaru Kante sank eight free throws and had 14 points, while Kabongo Ngalakulondi chipped in 10 points for the Cruaders (13-4).
Tyler Brown and Tyler Livingston each had 11 points for host Alvirne (10-7).
Exeter 78, West 45: At Exeter, Joe Schiedler and Max Medley each scored 13 points, and host Exeter clamped down on defense in the second half to earn the win. Zack Holler netted three 3-pointers and chipped in 11 points for the Blue Hawks (8-9). West's Nolan Flynn had big night from the arc, hitting five three-pointers en route to a 19-point performance. West dropped to 1-16.
Bishop Guertin 63, Salem 59: At Salem, the Cardinals (12-5) were led by Andrew Williams (12 points) with five points in the fourth quarter. BG was 11-of-15 in the fourth quarter at the free throw line. Jeff Lunn (20 points) and C.J. Boykin (10) also paced BG. Mike Felix had 22 points for Salem (7-10) and Jack Hartman (13 points) added nine in the fourth quarter.
Merrimack 73, Nashua North 52: At Nashua, Eric Gendron led the way with 23 points, and Brad Jarry scored a career-high 19 as the Tomahawks rolled on the road. Merrimack (11-5) gave up only 19 points in the first half. Nashua North moved to 3-14.
Div. II girls, prelims
Lebanon 69, John Stark 27: Moriah Morton netted 22 points as top-ranked Lebanon defeated No. 16 John Stark of Weare in the preliminary round of the Division II girls' basketball tournament in Lebanon Tuesday.
The undefeated Raiders (19-0) jumped out to a 23-2 lead in the first quarter.
Emily Kehoe scored 16 points in the win and teammate Heather King added 14 points. The Generals finished 4-15.
Pelham 68, Goffstown 63 (OT): In Goffstown for the second time this season, 11th-ranked Pelham knocked off the sixth-ranked Grizzlies in the preliminary round of the Division II girls' basketball tournament. During the regular season in Goffstown, Pelham beat Goffstown by five points. Tori Florence tallied 16 points including a lay-up with one second left in regulation to send the game into overtime.
Molly McQueeney and Rosalie Edmunds each had 14 points for the Grizzlies, who ended their season (12-7) two games better than last season.
